Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama'a officials in Guri Ceel District, Galguduud Region [central Somalia] have said that they have arrested several individuals in the town suspected of contributing to insecurity in the town.
Shaykh Abdiweli Haji Diriye, who is among officials of Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama'a group in the town has said that they have arrested three young men whom they suspect of belonging to Al-Shabab.
"We are currently holding three youth and they will be arraigned in court. They are suspected of having ties with groups that are opposed to us," said Shaykh Abdiweli. Relatives of these young men said they have been missing for a while now and called upon the local administration in the town to release them from custody saying that they do not contribute to insecurity in the town.
Speaking to the media, Diriye said "anyone suspected of being a threat to the security of the town will be taken to court and dealt with according to the shari'ah law." Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama'a members have been carrying out security operations in areas that are under their control ever since the fighting in Wabho District between their forces and those of the movement of the Al-Shabab Mujahidin backed by Hisb al-Islam broke out.
